The control centers of utilities receiveabundant raw measurements from power systemnetworks. The measurements may be destroyed orlost while being transmitted to the control centersdue to defects in sensors or loss of communicationduring a natural disaster. In such cases the rawdata has to be processed before being used foranalysis by various Energy Management System(EMS) applications. State estimation is a computerprogram that helps to process the rawmeasurements and determine the power systemstates from them. Vector consisting of bus voltagemagnitudes and their respective bus phase anglesare states of an electric power system. In recentyears, a wide range of state estimation methods hasemerged, and this paper provides an overview ofthe commonly used state estimation method. Itoutlines Weighted Least Square Technique and thesteps involved in the estimation.
