Abstract

FEM simulation analysis was made for deep drawing process by using the DEFORM-3D package. In this paperan attempt is carried out to deep draw Al-6063 perforated sheet metal to flat base cup of height 40mm forming arotational symmetry cup. Initially a 160mm blank is taken with elliptical perforations. Friction coefficient is taken asparameter to conduct present analysis. With increase of friction the variation in load applied by punch, the stressdeveloping pattern, induced strains, stress concentration in elements around the hole, thickness change and wrinkles areanalyzed. With increasing friction the sudden increase of load after 0.2 coulomb friction is observed and with increasingcontact nodes of punch with sheet showed peculiar stress-strain development is analyzed. The simulations showed thatvery minute wrinkles at flange till 2mm and no tearing is observed as elemental stress around hole is well below ultimatestrength of sheet.
