Surface finish plays an important role in the manufacturing industries as it impacts on safety and reliabilityof the components being manufactured. Therefore, it is evident that the parametric optimization is important. In thispresent study, an advanced optimization technique called Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is used in the parametricoptimization of the hard turning of EN-31 steel. Cutting parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate, depth of cut andnose radius are optimized for the surface roughness as an objective function. The results verified the effectiveness of PSOoptimization algorithm on the hard turning process parameters.
