The paper includes comparative analysis of wavelet and curvelet based image compression. Brief introductionabout curvelet and Wavelet transform is also included. Wavelet is proven most powerful tool for image compression ascompared to DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) but it has got certain limitation when it is handling line and curvesingularities in the image. The solution is Curvelet Transformwhich is able to handle image with line and curves.Comparasion is done on the basis of Compression Ratio and PSNR
