Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the intensities of various barriers in implementing Total Productive
Maintenance in an organisation and drive managerial insights. In this paper a graph theoretic approach has been used
to find the intensity of the barriers through an index which is calculated through a permanent function attained from the
digraph of TPM barriers. Four major barriers have been found from literature- Cultural barriers, Behavioural barriers,
Technical barriers and Strategic barriers. The GTA method also permits modelling of interactions among various subbarriers under each major barrier. It has been found that Technical barriers have the highest intensity in the case study
and strategic barriers have lowest intensity. The intensities of each enabler is represented as a single numeric value. As
the intensity of each enabler is known, managers can effectively utilize them during TPM implementation.
