Abstract

Heat exchangers are used in industrial process to recover heat between two process fluids. Heat exchangers
design includes an optimization process in which designers always consider certain objectives such as effectiveness, heat
transfer amount, pressure drop, etc. depending on the requirements. While achieving these objectives, it is also desirable
to minimize the total cost of the heat exchangers. Further, design optimization of a heat exchangers leads to a
complicated objective function with a large number of design variables. Hence, it is necessary to apply advanced
metaheuristic techniques for the optimization of heat exchangers. This paper presents the review of application of
different advanced metaheuristic techniques for the optimization of various heat exchangers.
