Agricultural risks are aggravating in Himachal Pradesh due to a variety of factors, ranging from ashortage of required inputs, weather and climatic conditions, lack of support from government and various governmentbodies, inadequate income generation, a shift in consumer preferences, and lack of technical know- how. These factorsendanger the livelihood of small farmers and also affect the economic development of Himachal Pradesh economy. Thecurrent study has been undertaken with the objective of identification of agricultural risk and risk management strategiesand tools. The study includes 360 farmers from Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan districts of the state who are engaged in thecultivation of potato and ginger both. In the study, agricultural risks are identified as problems by the respondentsengaged in the production of ginger and potato; factor analysis is done to identify significant risks associated with thegrowth of potato and ginger.
